John Rappole
John Rappole is research scientist emeritus with the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and Fellow of the American Ornithologists' Union.  Author of 12 books and 130 other publications in peer-reviewed journals, John continues to conduct investigations into avian range change, migratory bird ecology and evolution, disease movement, and sub-Himalayan ornithological diversity.  4 of John's books are regional bird guides - Texas, Southeast, Southwest and Mid-Atlantic. He received his bachelors degree from Colgate University in 1968, completed three years in the U.S. Army in 1971 as a lieutenant, and then returned to academic work to finish his MS in Ecology (1972) and his Ph.D. in Zoology (1976), both from the University of Minnesota.  He and his wife, Bonnie (née Carlson), recently returned to Jamestown after 40 years in various research and administrative positions in Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Mexico, and Minnesota.
